"Shameless" is our annual exhibition that features the best of contemporary erotica from local, national, and international artists

Erotica (from the Greek Eros-"desire") or "curiosa", are works of art, including literature, photography, film, sculpture and painting, that deal substantively with erotically stimulating or sexually arousing descriptions. Erotica is a modern word used to describe the portrayal of the human anatomy and sexually with high-art aspirations, differentiating such work from commercial pornography.  "Curiosa" is generally used to refer to erotica and pornography as discrete, collectible items, usually in published or printed form.

Dirty Show 2010

For the first time ever the Dirty Show will have 4 Guest Curators who will be bringing a plethora of talent to the exhibition.

We can proudly to announce that the talented eye of Les Barany, for the fourth consecutive year in a row as guest curator. In addition to being the friend and agent for HR Giger, Barany is a legend in art circles, curating cutting-edge shows, publishing books and propelling new talent to the world spotlight.

In addition we have Zoe Corleone, who runs the Museum Of Porn In Art in Zurich Switzerland, which has featured some of the biggest names in erotica on its walls.

Straight out of Brooklyn, we have the president of Thunderdog Studios, Tristan Eaton, who may be best known as the designer of The Dunny, which is probably the best known piece of Urban Vinyl in history.

Topping things off is the former director of Last Rites Gallery in Manhattan, Genivive Zacconi, of Philadelphia. An artist herself, (and actually an artist in Dirty Show #5) Zacconi has been putting on some of the most impressive shows in NYC, which will become obvious when you see the body of talent she brings to Detroit.

... at MondoPop International Gallery - Rome

Il titolo della collettiva natalizia di MondoPOP "Arte Sagra" mescola il concetto, storicamente elevato spiritualmente, di arte a quello di sagra, ovvero di festa di paese dedicata generalmente a un prodotto locale, spesso alimentare o comunque legato a bisogni primari dell‘umano.

Ma dal titolo è evidente che il curatore ironizza sulle Fiere e sul mercato stesso dell‘arte:
vengono in mente il palo della cuccagna, la corsa nei sacchi, il punchball e le varie giostrine, le processioni, la gara delle torte e quanto altro.

Ma in realtà, oltre l‘ironia, quello su cui ci piace far riflettere con la mostra è il concetto di arte elevata spiritualmente che spesso diamo per scontato.
La rappresentazione visiva del divino, tipica dell‘iconografia della religione cattolica (Dio vecchio barbuto, il crocefisso, la sacra famiglia, i santi), ha permesso nei secoli - con lo scopo didattico e confessionale di mantenere il popolo nel culto cattolico facendo sempre più adepti (quindi scopo concreto e non molto elevato spiritualmente) - la commercializzazione dell‘arte sacra, quindi la commercializzazione del divino stesso (pratica poco elevata spiritualmente anche questa).

Ed è su questo che gli artisti coinvolti hanno lavorato. Le immagini sacre e i loro usi, le loro contraddizioni, i loro precedenti illustri, la loro storia. fornendo così una propria interpretazione del Tema Sacro.

Visto che molte delle nuove correnti della pittura contemporanea si rifanno alla struttura pittorica pre-rinascimentale (icone, bidimensionalità, senso del grottesco, colore irreale vogliamo mettere in relazione quell‘epoca in cui il tema sacro era il soggetto di quasi tutta l‘arte della nostra parte di mondo con gli stili pittorici del nostro contemporaneo, ovvero i nostri.

Quindi si tratta di una mostra di opere a tema sacro a tutti gli effetti, che vedrà la luce il prossimo 12 di dicembre dalle ore 19 presso la galleria MondoPOP, via dei Greci 30, Roma, con una inaugurazione/epifania con il più appropriato degli aperitivi: cantucci e vinsanto.

SEXY ART GALLERY OPENS IN THE RED LIGHT DISTRICT OF AMSTERDAM

The first exhibition ‘21st Century Sexy Art‘ is an ode to new sexuality.

A Co-project to establish a contemporary Sexy Art Gallery (La Galerie Provocatrice) at the Erotic Museum in Amsterdam. The Museum in the Red Light District will be the first that offers a platform for contemporary artists through Sexy Art Gallery to expose and sell their erotic artworks. The project is an initiative of the people behind the Erotic Museum and Zaki & Shiren Silverman (curators Sexy Art Gallery ) and will give permanent base to artists from all over the world. The project is a unique concept that aims to link artists, press, new media, and people like you and me.

The first exhibition ‘21st Century Sexy Art‘ is an ode to new sexuality. With emphasis on the global sexual awakening on the World Wide Web as well as in the privacy of our homes.

Giovani artisti romani crescono. Questo collettivo di cinque talenti molto diversi tra loro, accomunati però dalla sperimentazione alternativa e dall'estrazione artistica indipendente, propone una serie di opere che spazia dalla street art, all'illustrazione pop, dall'action figure al flusso di coscienza fino ad arrivare alla musica.

Un'offerta molto varia e coerente con lo spirito artistico underground romano, vitale oltre ogni immaginazione. “Lilly and the noise” collective è un progetto estemporaneo portato avanti da:

Gianni Lancellotti (Roma, 1978) illustratore, pittore, artista indipendente.
Luigi Alieni (Roma, 1970) stilista, tatuatore, scultore, pittore.
Valerio Pierbattista, utilizza materiali di scarto , creando serigrafie su qualsiasi supporto, espressionismo astratto e street art.
Valentina Zummo (Marino, 1980) illustratrice, tatuatrice, artista postmoderna.
Marco About (Roma, 1977) visual artist, grafica ,musicista.

Il collettivo esporrà le proprie opere dal 26 novembre al 2 dicembre 2009 presso il Rebacco wine + Art Showroom, via Pomezia 12, Roma (M Re di Roma). Inaugurazione il 26/11 alle 19, con esibizione del duo ukulele/voce "Pasta e Patate".

Berlino...Palestina, Messico: quando cadrà il prossimo muro?

In occasione del ventennale dalla caduta del muro di Berlino, la galleria Aequalis organizza, in collaborazione col Comune di Roma, una mostra collettiva in cui gli artisti sono invitati a proporre una propria opera sul tema della separazione.

Il giorno dell'inaugurazione (9 Novembre), i due artisti Paolo "Gojo" Colasanti ed Alessandro "Zore" Lungo si esibiranno dal vivo davanti all'entrata della galleria.

A new exhibit of Italian Underground Artists.

MF Gallery and Riot Queer, founder of the “Punk Surrealism” movement, present a new show of Italian Underground art.

GENOVA - MF Gallery has teamed up with Riot Queer, (Italian artist and founder of the “Punk Surrealism” movement.) to present: “Moth-A-Fucker”, a new show of Italian Underground art. The theme of the show is “Moths” and will include works by: Riot Queer, Banana, Valerio Pierbattista,Alt97, J-Brock, Diamond, Alicè, Yuri&Yuri, Fidia Falaschetti, Morg, Macchiavello, Martina Secondo Russo and Frank Russo.

Riot Queer writes:

“Surrealism, Low-Brow, Underground and Counterculture are themes that can no longer remain locked up in a niche market. They have been emerging in a silent but violent way in magazines and galleries around the world. “Moths have a mysterious and deadly attraction to light. Underground artists are metaphorically attracted to the light of the mainstream, which usually tends to kill or otherwise limit their countercultural tendencies.

“In the same way that moths survive on decomposing foods, this group of artists gets inspiration from what our culture rejects, mixing it and distorting it with themes from politics, pornography, horror, advertising, and pop culture.”

MF Gallery, one of New York City’s best underground pop art galleries, opened a location in Genova, Italy in January 2009. The upstairs floor of MF Gallery Genova holds the semi-permanent collection, which features works by more than 20 international artists, including Lisa Petrucci, Riot Queer, Liz McGrath, Ciou, Fernando Carpaneda, and gallery owners/artists Martina Secondo and Frank Russo.

“Moth-A-Fucker” will be on view from October 24th until December 22nd, 2009. Works can also be viewed and purchased online on: www.MFgallery.net
